The Story of JC93 Hockey

Our Story

JC93 was born out of a love for hockey and a passion for helping players grow — no matter their size, skill level, or where they come from.

Some say JC93 started in Ogden, Utah. Others will tell you it started in Grand Bay–Westfield, New Brunswick, Canada. The truth is, our roots stretch across both.

A Hockey Family Heritage

Founder Jonathan Cosman grew up in Saint John, New Brunswick, surrounded by a family steeped in the game. His father, both grandfathers, uncles, and cousins all played. His mother’s cousin, Bruce Melanson, was a second-round draft pick of the New York Islanders in 1984 before his life was tragically cut short while playing in the OHL. Hockey wasn’t just a pastime — it was the family’s language.

A Journey of Perseverance

From a young age, Jonathan was known for his speed and skill, but at just 130 pounds in high school, size was always the obstacle. “I was cut from AAA teams in peewee and bantam — always on the last day. The message was always the same: I was too small.”

Undeterred, Jonathan finished his youth career with the Saint John Vito’s Midget AAA program before stepping away from the game to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines.

Returning home, Jonathan took a new path: Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. From 2014–2019, he wore #93 for the Wildcats, quickly becoming one of the fastest, most feared, and most exciting players in the region. For the faithful fans at the Weber County Ice Sheet, “93” wasn’t just a number — it was a thrill on the ice.

The Birth of JC93

In 2018, Ogden’s youth hockey program was struggling. With too few players for a full team, Jonathan was asked to step in and run small lessons. “I became known as the guy in purple who was always on the ice doing lessons.”

What started with just a handful of kids quickly grew. Parents asked for more lessons, then clinics, then travel opportunities. By the end of COVID, JC93 held its first tournament trip to Phoenix — and families loved it. Soon after, four JC93 teams hit the ice in Las Vegas, and the program began to take off.

From Local to North America

In the first few years, JC93 was made up of mostly Utah players. Today, we’ve expanded into a North American-wide program — with athletes from nearly every U.S. state, multiple Canadian provinces, and even overseas.

At JC93, we pride ourselves on more than just competing. After every weekend, players receive real feedback to help them grow. Our mission is simple:

  • Keep kids playing hockey.

  • Provide elite development opportunities.

  • Build a hockey family that lasts.

Looking Ahead

From one undersized kid with a dream to a program that spans the continent, JC93 is just getting started. We’re committed to helping more players each year, pushing them to reach their potential while making memories that last a lifetime.
